"The mission of the Alaska Humanities Forum is to use the wisdom and methods of the humanities to enrich the civic, intellectual and cultural life of all Alaskans."
The Alaska Humanities Forum engages Alaskans in humanities-based projects and innovative programs which are either funded by the Forum or run directly by the Forum. Our major programs are:

Leadership Anchorage
These programs serve the Forum’s mission by:
1. Funding numerous independent projects and programs based in the humanities within Alaska.
2. Building bridges of understanding between Alaska’s urban and rural peoples.
3. Researching, preserving, celebrating and sharing Alaska's rich history and cultural traditions.
4. Strengthening the foundations of civil society in Alaska.
5. Selecting and preparing diverse people from Anchorage, Mat-Su and Fairbanks for leadership roles in their communities.
The Forum is a 501(c)(3) organization. Founded in 1972 by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Forum is one of 56 state and territorial groups also supported by the NEH. The Forum is also a member of the Federation of State Humanities Councils.

The Forum's office is housed in one of Anchorage's most historic buildings, the Alaska Railroad Depot. The Depot was built in 1942 and is located along the banks of Ship Creek, where Anchorage had its origins as a tent city for workers building the Alaska Railroad. Contact the Forum at:
