2016 Alaska Press Club Awards:

First Place, Best Arts Reporting

"Abandoned to the Wind"

Judge's remarks: This is an incredibly written story and the visuals, of course, are amazing. The poetic writing brings to life the battered, abandoned, windy wildness of Adak. We gain an intimate sense of the artist who is the subject of this story through this gorgeous quote that captures his artistic mission: "I want beauty and humanity along with the neglected."

Second Place, Best Alaska History

"Picture Man"

Judge's remarks: A loving portrait of a man who is too important for history to forget. The layout and structure of the piece adds to its value.

First Place, Best Culture Reporting

"Gifts of the Ancestors"

Judge's remarks: Though this topic is clearly gripping in and of itself, it feels all the more so for such vivid, fresh writing. There were so many turns of phrase I loved, I lost count. Thanks for the excellent and educational read.
