Partner Highlight: University of Alaska Southeast School of Education

Over the past year, our partnership with the University of Alaska Southeast School of Education has grown in unexpected and meaningful ways. After meeting several members of the UAS team at the Chugachmiut Education Summit in fall 2025, we were then lucky to have Robyn Capp, Assistant Professor of Special Education; Corrine Marks, Assistant Professor of Secondary Education; and Lorrie Gax̱.áan.sán Heagy, Assistant Professor of Elementary Education, join us for Hosting Impactful Gatherings last winter. From there, our partnership grew into an invitation to support their strategic planning efforts.

In August, Polly Carr and Taylor Strelevitz traveled to Juneau to work with a team of 16 as they imagined the future of their School of Education and explored how to get there. 

We began by asking what their ancestors would want them to keep in mind and what the next generation would hope they were considering now.

Dean of the School of Education Angela Lunda shared an Elder’s wisdom with the group: “Each one of you is precious.”

With the pressures facing educators only mounting, it was an honor to spend time with a group so deeply dedicated to one another, their students, and the future of education in Alaska.
