As Story Works Alaska officially merges with the Alaska Humanities Forum, we celebrate its history and the many people who helped build it from the ground up. This next chapter ensures that the spirit of the program will continue to resonate across Alaska, reaching even more communities and students. Thank you for helping make this legacy possible, and for trusting the Forum with these stories.
Since its founding in 2014, Story Works has empowered more than 6,000 Alaskan youth through storytelling workshops that foster self-expression, build confidence, and create meaningful connections. With the support of community volunteers, dedicated educators, and engaged students, Story Works Alaska has made a lasting impact by elevating youth voices and strengthening the bonds between schools and their communities.
A program like Story Works can not exist without partners: teachers, schools, community organizations, board members, and incredible volunteers. Thank you to co-founders Regan Brooks and Vik Patel for starting this incredible story, to past Story Works Alaska board members: Britta Hamre, Kirsten Anderson, Issa Spatrisano, Jeannette Lee, Ann Rembert Safranek and Rachel K Lescher for their stewardship and to the incredible teachers, students and community partners who have opened their classrooms and filled them with stories.

The Alaska Humanities Forum is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that designs and facilitates experiences to bridge distance and difference – programming that shares and preserves the stories of people and places across our vast state, and explores what it means to be Alaskan.
