How can we design conversations that connect us not just in spite of difference but because of it?

Join the Alaska Humanities Forum for a two-day highly interactive workshop where participants explore this question together. This experience is designed for people who want to facilitate conversations that build trust, deepen relationships, and strengthen community.

Conversation may feel as natural as breathing but designing a conversation that fosters real connection, insight, and shared ownership is a craft that takes practice and coaching.

Over the course of two days, participants will engage in reflective discussions in both large and small groups while learning practical techniques for guiding them. Through hands-on practice, each participant will have the opportunity to design and facilitate a conversation, receiving thoughtful feedback from trainers and peers.

During the workshop, participants will:

  • Understand both the value and limitation of conversations for building community

  • Develop a concrete set of tools for planning and facilitating meaningful conversations

  • Co-design and facilitate a conversation

  • Experience a variety of conversation designs and facilitation styles

  • Practice both giving and receiving feedback in order to learn and grow as a facilitator.

Who Should Attend:
This workshop is designed for anyone who brings people together; community leaders, educators, nonprofit staff, organizational managers, facilitators, and anyone committed to building stronger, more connected communities through conversation.

Location, Lodging, & Travel:

This workshop will take place at a retreat-style private home in Wasilla, Alaska, with mountain views, a hot tub, and a sauna. Tuition includes shared lodging and all meals for the duration of the workshop.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Wasilla. We will gather for a group dinner at 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 18th, which marks the start of our time together.

The workshop will conclude on Friday, November 20th at approximately 5:00pm. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation home from Wasilla at that time.

Cancellation Policy

Due to the immersive nature of this workshop and the advance costs associated with lodging, meals, and transportation, we ask participants to make a full commitment to attend.

Cancellations made 30 days or more prior to the workshop will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the workshop are non-refundable.

If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another participant at no additional cost (with advance notice). In cases of emergency or unforeseen circumstances, please reach out - we aim to approach each case with flexibility whenever possible.
